Thank You to those of you who nominated, and voted for me as the 2008 NW Instrumentalist of the Year
at the Earshot Jazz Awards
It's quite an honor.  I'm very grateful and excited to know that people are listening and enjoying the music!

Hope to see you at one of my two CD RELEASE shows in April celebrating my second quartet recoring on Origin Records, 'Spectre'   We'll be at the Triple Door Mainstage on April 13th @ 7:30...make your reservations now!  We'll also be performing as part of  the Art of Jazz Series sponsored by Earshot Jazz at the Seattle Art museum on April 9th @ 5:30pm.   Check my gigs page for more info!

2008 was a fantastic year, and 2009 is shaping up to be even busier, and filled with some great new music!  Be sure not to miss the 2008 releases by Matt Jorgensen +451, Thomas Marriott's "Willie Nelson Project" , and Victor Noriega Trio + 2.    I'm very proud to be a part of all of these great bands.  Speaking of Thomas Marriott...I'm also on his latest Origin Records release "Flexicon" which will be out in May and features the incredible vibraphonist, Joe Locke.  Great stuff!

Also, stay tuned for what promises to be a really great quartet CD that Thomas is currently writing the music for... this April we'll go into the studio with the great organist, Gary Versace!  It will also feature Matt Jorgensen on drums, Thomas Marriott on trumpet, and yours truly on saxophone.

Trumpet player/composer/photographer/graphic designer etc..Chad McCullough also has his debut CD on Origin due out sometime this summer.  I appear on a few tunes along with Chicago saxophonist, Geoff Bradfield.  More details TBA!

As always, you can still catch me on the first Monday of every month with the Jim Knapp Orchestra at the Seattle Drum School.  We'll be recording Jim's 4th CD in mid-February.   Keep your eyes open for this CD of new music from a unique and amazing composer...and make sure to catch this band live!  Our next show is actually on February 16th @ the LAB (Seattle Drum School)...the Monday before we go into the studio.

Two other projects that I'm really excited about will have recordings released this year:
Tom Varner's  Tentet recorded "Heaven and Hell"  last April, and is due to be released very soon on the Omnitone label....and  Greg Sinibaldi's "Mobiles"  (an extended work for a very unique large ensemble)  has been recorded and should be out sometime later this summer.
Both projects are completely original and creative, and are amazing demonstrations of imaginative composition, unusual and beautiful ensemble textures, individual and group improvisation, very specific structures, complete freedom ...you name it!  Amazing writing and playing...not to be missed!

Finally, I've had the pleasure of playing with Wayne Horvitz recently!  You can hear his new acoustic quartet (which also includes Geoff Harper-bass, and Eric Eagle-drums ) every Thursday at Cafe Paloma in Pioneer Square through April 2nd (and hopefully longer!)

I'm also in his big band project,  'WACO'.  Be sure to catch 'WACO'  on the last Sunday of the each month @ Tost in Freemont.   This is a great new big band that is a spin off of Wayne Horvitz' NY Composers Orchestra which played a lot in the late '80's and '90's.  (My first experience with Wayne was listening to NYCO at the old OK Hotel around 1991 or so....great to actually be in the band now!)  We're playing a bunch of Wayne's pieces from those days, some beautiful pieces by Robin Holcomb, Tom Varner, and undoubtedly will be adding great new music all the time.

Check back regularly for calendar updates, new projects, and special concerts!
